Grow A Tree Campaign
We hear about climate change. But now we are more aware of its impact because we experience extreme weather. During dry season we suffer from extreme heat and drought. During rainy season, more communities are submerged in flash floods.
Aware that one of the solutions to the global warming is to plant more trees, Atikha took an active part in the National Greening Program (NGP) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources ( DENR) to plant more trees and promote agro-forestry among the OFWs, their families and communities. Atikha is a caretaker of a NGP in Barotac Viejo Iloilo and Mt. Banahaw Quezon. Although our work is focused on OFWs and their families, caring for the environment is a moral obligation of all.
To create awareness and mobilize our communities to plant more trees, Atikha is launching the Grow a Tree Campaign.
Our Goal:
Convert deforested areas into sustainable agro-forestry farms.
Our Objectives:
- Create awareness on the need to protect our environment among the OFWs, their families and communities;
- Mobilize manpower, financial and technical resources to be able to plant trees in Western Visayas and Calabarzon.
- Develop model agro-forestry farms and train farmers and the community in agro-forestry to prevent them from cutting trees for their livelihood.
Atikha is looking for organizations and individuals who are willing to participate in the Grow a Tree Campaign.
Forms of support for individuals:
- Volunteer in the campaign and tree planting activities;
- Provide technical assistance in the agro-forestry project;
- Adopt a Tree – provide financial support of Php 500 per tree to support the farmers in the NGP area who will plant and take care of the trees through agro-forestry and prevent them from engaging in monocropping.
Forms of support for organizations:
- Sponsor seminars and other activities on Environment Consciousness;
- Mobilize volunteers and provide technical support for planting and nurturing the trees in the National Greening Projects of Atikha;
- Adopt model agroforestry farms. Provide financial support for planting trees in 1 hectare farm for Php 60,000 pesos for 120 trees which will be managed by partner farmers and be developed as agroforestry farm.
Trees and model agro-forestry farms adopted will be geotagged for mentoring and monitoring.
