According to Atikha Executive Director Mai Dizon-Anonuevo, the forum is the culmination of series of migration and development fora and consultations conducted in cooperation with National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Region IV-A and the provincial and selected municipal governments of Cavite, Laguna and Batangas.

The fora and consultations aims at integrating migration in the development plans of local government units particularly, in provinces, cities and municipalities. The initiative is also in recognition of the great number of migrants from municipalities and cities in Calabarzon Region working abroad.

On the other hand, the goals of the regional forum are: to identify challenges and opportunities in integrating migration in regional development plan; develop strategies in integrating migration in development agenda of the provinces and municipalities; and map out resources that could be tapped for the implementation of migration and development plan of provinces and municipalities with high concentration of migrants from Calabarzon.

The European Commission – United Nation Joint Migration and Development Initiatives (EC-UNJMDI) sponsors the regional forum through Atikha with the theme: ?Maximizing the Gains and Minimizing the Social Cost of Migration in the Philippines? and the Calamba City government. (PIA)
