Coco Natur Overseas Filipino Workers and Producers Cooperative Mobilizes Investors in Coconut Enterprises
Coco Natur is a fair trade social enterprise owned and operated by Coco Natur OFW & Producers’ Cooperative and supported by Atikha, Pederasyon ng Magsasaka at Magniniyog sa Lunsod ng San Pablo, and the Department of Trade and Industry. It was established in 2006, to produce Virgin Coconut Oil and other coconut-by products and derivatives such as: VCO Soap, Aroma Therapy Massage Oil, Moisturizer.
Coco Natur’s vision is to develop sustainable communities producing high-value coconut products that will provide jobs and economic opportunities in the area. Coco Natur hopes to process all parts of coconut (total nut approach) including its waste products in order to increase the profitability of the coconut enterprises and help protect the environment.
Coco Natur and Atikha aim to organize community based enterprises that will process the following:
- coco water into vinegar, nata de coco and sugar;
- coconut meat into flour;
- coconut shell into shellcraft decors & accessories and charcoal briquets;and
- coconut husk into coco coir, fiber and geonet.
To join the Coco Natur OFW and Producers Cooperative, an individual has to buy a share at PHP 100 for a minimum of 5 shares. For OFWs, the minimum share is 50 shares or PHP 5,000.
The community, families of migrant workers and the coconut industry stand to benefit from the operations of the cooperative and the production of VCO and other coconut products: Investors, here and abroad, especially the OFWs and their families are guaranteed a handsome return of investment.
